These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the koreader.com website (the “Site”) and any related services, products, or software (collectively, “Services”) provided by KOReader (“we”, “our”, or “us”). By using the Site or Services, you agree to comply with and be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Site or Services.

Acceptance of Terms

  • You must be at least 13 years old to use our Services.
  • By accessing or using the Site or downloading/using the software, you represent that you have the legal capacity and authority to agree to these Terms.
  • These Terms may be updated from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a new “Last updated” date. Your continued use after that constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

Use of the Site & Services

  • You agree to use the Site and Services in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • You must not use the Site or Services for any illegal, harmful, or unauthorized purpose, including but not limited to infringing intellectual property, distributing malware, harassing others, or interfering with the operation of the Services.
  • All content on the Site is provided “as is.” We do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, or secure operation.

Licenses and Restrictions

  • When you use KOReader software, you receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the software according to its purpose, under these Terms, and any license terms accompanying it.

You must not:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code.
  • Distribute or share copies of the software beyond what is permitted.
  • Use the software in conflict with local laws (e.g. laws concerning DRM, copyright, etc.).

Digital Content & Compatibility

  • The Services may support multiple file formats (e.g. PDF, EPUB, MOBI, etc.), but we cannot guarantee that all content or files will display correctly on all devices or in all formats.
  • You agree that compatibility, rendering, and performance may vary depending on your device, software version, screen type (especially e-ink), and other technical factors.

User Accounts & Syncing

  • If you choose to create an account (for syncing reading progress, bookmarks, etc.), you agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information.
  • You are responsible for safeguarding your login credentials. You notify us immediately of any unauthorized use or breach of security.
  • We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that we believe violate these Terms.

Highlighting, Annotations & Content Export

  • You may use annotation and exporting features only in compliance with these Terms.
  • Content highlighted or annotated remains your responsibility. You should ensure that shared or exported content does not infringe any copyrights or third-party rights.

Third-Party Services & Links

  • The Site or Services may integrate with or link to third-party services (e.g., Calibre, Google Translate, Wikipedia, etc.). These are owned and operated by other entities.
  • We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or terms of such third parties. Use those at your own risk.

Disclaimers & Warranties

  • TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS”, “WITH ALL FAULTS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.
  • We disclaim all warranties, including those of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
  • You acknowledge that there may be bugs, interruptions, inaccuracies, or delays, and we are not liable for those beyond what is required by law.

Limitation of Liability

  • Except where prohibited by law, KOReader and its affiliates, directors, employees, partners, agents, or licensors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages, or loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Services.
  • In no event will our total liability to you for all damages exceed the amount you have paid us in the past 12 months (if any) or, if none, a small fixed amount (e.g. USD $50), whichever is greater.
